Clarenceville High School
The Trojans took first place in the silver bracket at the Garden City JV Tournament this weekend. The morning started out tough with Clarenceville going 2-4 in pool play, losing to Trenton 15-25, 5-25, beating Wayne Memorial 25-13, 25-17, and losing to Garden City 20-25 and 19-25.
The girls made their comeback in the playoff rounds, beating Redford Union 25-13, 25-9 and then finally beating Crestwood for the championship in a nail biter game. The Trojans lost the first set 17-25 before winning the second set 25-22, forcing a tie-breaker. The girls finally knocked off Crestwood after winning the deciding match 15-10.
The Trojans were strong serving once again. Junior captain Anna Denny led the team at the line with 13 aces on the day. Junior Shelby Smith and sophomore Kayla Dickey-Milam also chipped in 11 aces overall. The team plays their next match against Robichaud on at home on Tuesday.
