Freshman Jacob Johnson, singles champion for Division 3 in Flat Rock qualified 2nd in the qualifying round in the state finals in Muskegon and finished 9th overall. Division 3 has approximately 693 boys in competition at the start of the season with the top 16 going into the Match Play Round to determine the singles champion. Jacob qualified in second place averaging 205.6. Starting the final round, Jacob bowled against the number 15 seed from Hopkins High school. The final matches are 2 games with total pins advancing. The first game Jacob bowled 195 to his opponents 201 and then proceeded to lose the second 179-181 which was the highest losing score in the first round. Finishing 9th in the state as a freshman is a great accomplishment and looks forward to competing over the next 3 years. As in most finals, it’s very rare that a number 1 or 2 seed goes all the way and wins and this year was no exception as the number 6 seed was crowned Division 3 Singles Champion for 2019.
